The rules
- No LLMs of any kind, not even GPT-3. No ChatGPT, no DeepSeek, no Claude, no Gemini AI overviews (Google search with the
-aiflag or web search mode). - No AI autocomplete, cuz that makes my life easier. LSP dropdowns are allowed.
- All articles (Stack Overflow included) must be from before November 30, 2022.
- All books must be released before November 30, 2022.
- Asking people is allowed.
- Not a single trace of AI in what I write. This means the codebase will be full of weird broken English.
But X has AI in it!!
Well ackshually...
- It is impossible to program without documentation, and documentation definitely has traces of AI in it, so "ackshually" it would be downright impossible to program. But for the sake of the handwritten challenge, I still consult modern-day documentation.
- Stack Overflow answers can be edited later, so it's simply impossible to dodge AI at this point. But again, for the sake of the handwritten challenge, I try not to use SO posts from after 11/30/2022.
- "But your up-to-date language was built with AI! So was macOS!" Yes. So was Linux. Keep going and nobody can write a single line of code without breaking the rule. That's puritan nonsense, so my language stays up to date.
- "But the person you asked learned from AI!" Maybe. My brain isn't free from AI influence either, and neither is yours. If AI-free means nothing AI ever touched, then nothing is AI-free. This challenge isn't about purity. It's about writing every line myself.
